Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and restricted and repetitive behavior. Children with autism are usually normal up until the age of 1 or 2 and then signs of autism show them selfs by impaired social interaction and verbal communication. These signs often become apparent at the age of 3 or in early childhood, so it can be diagnosed. It’s causes are still unknown! People with autism maybe severely impaired in some respects but normal or even superior, in others. Children with autism distinguished by a characteristics triad of symptoms : impairments in social interaction, impairments in communication and restricted interests and repetitive behavior (jumping up and down and clapping) and there might be atypical sensitiveness in 5 senses( hearing, smell, sight, touch, taste). Overall main problem is that parents and society are not familiar with autism , and lack of facilities and support cause even more problems!! There are 200000 children with autism in Iran who are held in special centers for impaired kids. One child with autism born every 20 minutes in the world.
